Seasons
Leaves were green and new to the world
Didn’t quite know the game yet
Weren’t too anxious to get wet
Or even blown about by wind
Then they saw the sun and its glory
Coming and going…everything did so
Birds trilled and stars shimmered
Water glistened after rain
They found the wind was pleasant
When it fluttered across them
The leaves had learned a lot but
They were still green and
Had no idea about the autumn
And that marvelous wind
Slowly got harsher and colder
And the birds left their nests
And the stars were clouded over
Rain hit them like bullets
Exploding with each drop
They learned even more then
About what really happens during their life
That perfection is simply a phase
But the leaves still clung to the tree
They wanted to ride it out but they
Hadn’t been told that even
Rome fell eventually
Then the actuality sank in
That they were going down
And one at a time
They danced a final tango with that
Wind
That taught them beauty
And then harshness
And then ended it all
With one final trip
One final memory
And they all learned at that moment
That everything ends and
Innocence and that ripeness
Will always fade into
The brown
Just to be
Finally and lastly
Mowed
Down
